The Symposium

Purpose

Provide diverse stakeholder perspectives on the emerging unconventional energy markets with a particular emphasis on the natural gas economy and impacts in Colorado, United States and around the globe with goal to educate, inform and discuss complex issues with the goal of finding viable solutions.

Objectives

  1. CSU would be a credible data and research driven source for the natural gas issue and act as a leader and an “honest broker” of information from all sides of the issue. 
  2. CSU’s symposium would discuss
    • how we currently produce natural gas
    • why we need natural gas
    • what are the current challenges and uses
    • what are responsible emerging solutions in development of natural gas (in water, air quality, land use, reclamation, natural resources, social & community impacts, economic and energy policy issues). 
  3. Showcase actual projects and research actual projects and research (in sessions or panel discussions. There will be space available in venue for CSU student posters.)
  4. Time for networking and business to business discussions
  5. Expand CSU’s reach beyond Colorado by inviting national speakers, organizations, NGOs and industry partners to participate as speakers and sponsors.  In addition, we want an international component. 
  6. All stakeholders on all sides of the issues would be invited encouraging civil discourse that would result in benefits including education around natural gas issues, affecting policy changes, offering an event that welcomes discussion, networking resulting in future research opportunities, demonstrating leadership by CSU multi-disciplinary teams, further solution-finding results.
